Why Ajax, and when Dahua is the smarter buy
Ajax is the best wireless alarm system we have worked with. It is European designed and made, the range keeps growing, and that quality carries a higher price than Dahua. If we had to pick one, we would pick Ajax every time — particularly on larger jobs, or anywhere you want advanced functionality and integration. Paired with Ajax cameras, the whole lot runs through one app.
Dahua's alarm platform is, frankly, heavily inspired by Ajax, built to hit a more affordable price. It is still a solid product. We have installed plenty and have no hesitation recommending them for the right job.
On core functionality there is not a lot in it: both give you app control, alarm notifications, wireless detectors and an easy system to live with. The differences are build quality, how far the range expands, integration options, and long-term reliability. You can feel it in the hardware — Ajax has a more premium finish, Dahua uses more cost-effective plastics.
For a basic home alarm with a few door contacts and motion detectors, Dahua performs very well. Whether it is still performing at the same level in ten years is the open question — it has not been in the market as long as Ajax.
If budget is the main concern, Dahua is excellent value and will do a great job in most homes. If you want the highest-quality wireless system, more flexibility and a platform that grows with you, Ajax is the clear winner and our preferred recommendation.
