Is this the right system for you?
This is the one we point you at when budget is the main consideration, when you want a straightforward residential alarm with a few door contacts and motion detectors, and when you would rather put the difference towards cameras or extra detectors than towards a premium platform.
If the property is larger, if the job needs more advanced functionality, or if you want alarms and cameras running through a single app, we would point you at Ajax instead — and we will tell you that honestly rather than sell you whichever one suits us.
How this compares to Ajax
Let's not beat around the bush. Dahua's alarm platform is heavily inspired by Ajax, but designed to hit a more affordable price point. That said, it is still a solid product. We have installed several of these systems and have no hesitation recommending them for the right application.
On core functionality there is not a huge difference. Both give you app control, alarm notifications, wireless detection devices and easy day-to-day operation. Where they separate is build quality and finish, product range and expandability, advanced integration, and long-term track record.
You can generally feel the difference in the hardware. Ajax has a more premium finish; Dahua uses more cost-effective materials and plastics. For a basic residential alarm, Dahua performs very well and will provide reliable security. Whether it is still performing at the same level after ten years or more remains to be seen — it has not been in the market as long as Ajax.
The two places Dahua comes out ahead: the equipment warranty is 3 years against Ajax's 2, and it is around $500 less for the same coverage on a typical four-bedroom home, fully installed.
